Anthony Pace

Anthony Pace, Partner, Head of Tax, KPMG in Malta

Anthony commenced his career in the firm’s audit function in 1990. In 1995 he joined the taxation services department and has since worked in income tax and value added tax. Anthony joined the partnership in January 2003 and he currently heads the firm’s tax function. Anthony has led numerous direct and indirect tax advisory engagements in banking and financial services, gaming, real estate and family businesses. He has also led several tax due diligence engagements. Anthony is a member of the Executive Management Committee at KPMG Malta. He is also a visiting lecturer in taxation at the University of Malta.

Doreen Fenech, Partner, Tax Services, KPMG in Malta

Doreen is a Partner in the tax function at KPMG in Malta and has over 18 years experience in tax. In the local sphere, the profile of the client base led by Doreen is usually large/medium sized family businesses and companies in the manufacturing industry as well as a number of public interest entities. Doreen has advised these clients on various taxation matters including group restructuring, capital gains issues, financing structures, real estate transactions, incentives available to the manufacturing industry and succession planning. Doreen has also advised a number of international clients on taxation matters in particular in relation to the setting up of corporate structures to invest in Malta or in foreign countries. Doreen has also significant experience in private individual taxation, international executive services and employment and social security related services and has advised clients both in relation to their personal tax affairs and their business interests and assisted a number of individuals in taking up residence in Malta. Doreen‘s individual clients include various high net worth individuals, non-domiciled individuals, executives and international assignees.

Roderick Borg, Director, International Tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Roderick Borg is an accountant by profession. He joined the tax function of KPMG after graduating with a first class degree in both the B. Com course and the B. Accty (Hons.) course from the University of Malta. In 2010, Mr Borg was awarded the diploma in taxation with distinction from the Malta Institute of Taxation. He is currently an Associate Director involved in the provision of direct and indirect tax compliance and advisory services to domestic and international corporate and individual clients. He also delivers lectures in various seminars and professional educational activities relating to taxation matters including taxation modules to students reading for their ACCA qualification.

Kurt Farrugia, Director, International Tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Kurt is an Director at KPMG forming part of the firm’s international tax team. As an accountant Kurt joined the tax function of KPMG in 2014 after reading for the Master in Accountancy course at the University of Malta (UM). He has since completed, with distinction, the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation offered by the Chartered Institute of Taxation and was awarded the Heather Self Medal for placing first globally in the Principles of International Taxation paper.  Kurt is involved in the provision of direct tax compliance and advisory services to domestic and international corporate clients specialising in the areas of Income Tax on Capital Gains, Duty on Documents and Transfers and International Tax. Kurt is also involved in the delivery of technical presentations both to KPMG staff and to clients and has also delivered lectures and tutorials to both ACCA and UM students.

Brenda Williams Caffari

Brenda Williams Caffari, Associate Director, Tax Services, KPMG in Malta

Brenda commenced her career in tax in 2013 providing income tax compliance and advisory services to a diversified portfolio of both local and international clients. She was promoted to a tax manager in 2017. In the local sphere, the profile of the client base managed by Brenda is usually large/medium sized businesses, companies operating in various industries as well as a number of public interest entities. Since joining the tax function within KPMG, Brenda has been involved in providing income tax compliance and advisory services to a number of local and international clients both from a corporate as well as from a personal tax perspective. Over the past years Brenda has managed a team of tax advisors in providing varied tax advisory and compliance services to clients. Brenda has been involved in advising and providing assistance to clients on various taxation matters including group restructuring and incentive legislation. Within this context, she has advised leading local businesses operating in various industry sectors including Information Technology, Pharmaceuticals, Manufacturing, Logistics, Waste Management, Building Construction and Hotel & Accommodation. Brenda is currently responsible for overseeing the compliance team that provides tax compliance services in Malta. She is currently involved in advising and assisting national and multinational clients with their tax compliance. She has provided compliance assistance to well known international household names which have set up structures in Malta.

Ruth Bonnici, Associate Director, International Tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Ruth is a warranted lawyer and graduated with a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2016. She read her Advanced Masters in International Taxation at the International Tax Centre, University of Leiden in the Netherlands and graduated cum laude in 2018. In 2015 Ruth joined KPMG Malta and is currently an Associate Director within the International Tax Advisory team, being particularly involved in the provision of direct tax advisory services to international corporate clients. Ruth also regularly delivers classes in various courses relating to international tax.

Louise Grima

Louise Grima, Associate Director, Tax – VAT Compliance/Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Louise Grima is an Associate Director at KPMG Malta. She joined KPMG in 2015 after graduating with a Master in Accountancy from the University of Malta and has since worked in direct and indirect taxation assisting clients established in a number of fields including retailing, gaming, banking, funds amongst others. Louise was awarded the 2015 MIA Best Student of the Year prize for Master in Accountancy Group 2013/2015, holds a Diploma in VAT compliance and has successfully completed the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation with an overall distinction. Louise regularly delivers seminars on both direct and indirect taxation.

Luisa Gauci, Senior Manager, International Tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Luisa is a Senior Manager at KPMG. Luisa is an accountant by profession having joined KPMG in 2015 after concluding the Masters in Accountancy Degree in Malta. Luisa has also completed her studies in Domestic and International Taxation and is in possession of the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT).

Luisa is involved in the provision of domestic and international tax compliance and advisory services. Luisa has been actively involved in developing the FATCA / CRS service offering of KPMG. Her work extends to developing and reviewing FATCA / CRS policy and on-boarding documentation of financial services companies, both local and international with a presence in Malta.

Thomas Zammit

Thomas Zammit, Senior Manager, International Tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Thomas is a Senior Manager as part of the tax function of KPMG Malta, having joined during 2016 after completing the Master in Accountancy degree at the University of Malta. He also completed the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation which is awarded by the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Thomas’s role mainly focuses on domestic corporate tax and incentive legislation, whereby he is involved in the provision of tax compliance and tax advisory services to local and international corporate clients across various industries.
