Course Description:
Navigate the world of business finance with confidence. This course is designed specifically for professionals from non-financial backgrounds who want to understand the essential concepts and terminology that drive business success. Without relying on technical jargon, we aim to demystify the financial reporting process, enabling you to confidently understand and explain the core components of financial statements.
Starting with the fundamentals, you will be introduced to key accounting concepts, terminology, and the accounting equation. You will follow the complete reporting journey, from individual business transactions through to the trial balance and the final preparation of financial statements. The course provides a detailed examination of income and expenses, liabilities, and both tangible and intangible assets, including important concepts such as depreciation and amortisation. You will also gain a clear understanding of key adjustments like accruals and prepayments.
The course then explores the structure and content of the primary financial statements, including a comprehensive look at the statement of cash flows and its operating, investing, and financing components. In addition to understanding the statements themselves, you will learn how to interpret them using ratio analysis to assess a company’s performance, while also recognising the limitations of these methods.
Finally, the focus shifts to practical application, providing you with essential techniques for strategic decision-making. This includes break-even and contribution analysis, capital investment appraisal, and using the time value of money to discount cash flows. Throughout the course, mini case studies will reinforce your learning and help ensure that you can apply these techniques in real-world business scenarios.
