Course Description:

This seminar will be covering a number of issues of interest to Maltese insurers currently in the UK Temporary Permissions Regime, with approved third country branches in the UK, or considering accessing the UK insurance market in future.

Giselle is an experienced professional with a strong background in governance, risk, and compliance, across a range of industries. Throughout her career, she has led audit and assurance engagements for major market players, working both in Malta and with KPMG London’s audit department. Today, Giselle advises entities on corporate governance, regulatory reporting, risk management, internal audit, and actuarial matters. She supports organisations in navigating evolving expectations and aligning their structures and operations accordingly. Giselle also assists clients in establishing regulated entities in Malta, guiding them through licensing processes and cross-border considerations, including freedom of services, establishment, and general good requirements across European jurisdictions.

Matt Francis

Matthew leads KPMG UK’s insurance regulatory technical team and provides assurance and advice to insurers in relation to understanding, and dealing with, the impacts of regulatory change on their business strategies and structures.

His clients seek specialist input in circumstances ranging from transactional due diligence to implementing financial and risk transformation; from regulatory compliance and reporting, to structuring their groups to deliver corporate strategy. He works with a range of life and general insurance companies, reinsurers and intermediaries with operations within and outside the EEA.

Alex joined KPMG from the PRA where he led projects around Solvency II and Brexit. He brings strong project management disciplines and extensive experience of working alongside actuaries. Alex specialises in project delivery around prudential regulation and delivering change within risk functions. Alex has experience in risk function effectiveness, prudential regulation and change, new firm and branch authorisations and change in control processes, demutualisation, routes to access the UK insurance market, and assessment of risk management and controls frameworks.
