Jonathan Dingli

Partner, Head of Advisory

Jonathan is Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Malta. He co-leads the Corporate Accounting Advisory Services (CAAS) practice and leads both the KPMG Learning Academy and the firm’s ESG Reporting service line in Malta. He has over 22 years of experience in the accountancy profession, complemented by 18 years of lecturing experience. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons.) degree, awarded cum laude, from the University of Malta. He began his career within the audit function of KPMG before being appointed as the first Technical Officer of the Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA), later becoming its first Technical Director. In 2012, Jonathan re-joined KPMG to establish the Accounting Advisory team. In his role as an IFRS specialist, he has advised a wide range of local and international clients on complex financial reporting matters, supporting them in achieving compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). He subsequently assumed leadership of the firm’s training arm, the KPMG Learning Academy, and currently serves as KPMG Malta’s ESG Reporting Lead, assisting organisations in meeting the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Jonathan completed his PhD studies in 2021 and lectures in advanced financial reporting to Master of Accountancy students at the University of Malta. He is an elected member of the Council of the Malta Institute of Accountants and currently serves as its President.

Associate Director

Maria joined the corporate accounting team at KPMG Malta on a full-time basis in 2014. Over the years, she continued to grow and expand her knowledge, amassing a vast portfolio of local and international clients. She has assisted with the bookkeeping and the preparation of statutory financial statements of various clients across diverse industries such as financial services, gaming, shipping, property investment, professional services, pharmaceuticals and holding companies. Maria is proficient in applying both the local default accounting framework GAPSME as well as IFRSs as adopted by the EU. She has also assisted clients with the restatement of financial statements from foreign GAAP to GAPSME or IFRS, as the case may be, either as a result of redomiciliation to Malta or for consolidation purposes. She has worked hand in hand with professional advisors in order to devise and implement various restructuring plans put forward by clients. Over the years, she has worked on different types of accounting software, always seeking to use that which best suits the client. She helped clients to implement and ease into new accounting systems whilst making sure that the transition process runs as smoothly as possible. Apart from accounting related support services, Maria also offers advice on VAT related issues and assists clients with their VAT compliance obligations. Occasionally, Maria delivers technical training on VAT and accounting matters, both within KPMG and externally, to clients and with other learning institutions.

Associate Director

Rosalene has been part of the Corporate Accounting Advisory Services department of KPMG for around 10 years. She immediately joined the team on a full time basis after obtaining her Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree at the University of Malta. Her tasks involve managing a team of advisors within the aforementioned department. Throughout the years, she has assisted clients with their book-keeping and financial statements preparation requirements under both the local default accounting framework (GAPSME) and IFRS as adopted by the EU. She has experience on accounting of various holding companies such as holding of property, plant and equipment, investment property, portfolio of investments, subsidiaries, associates and joint ventures, and other financial instruments such as available-for-sale assets, assets held for trading and loans and receivables under local GAAP and also financial instruments under IFRS 9. She also assisted with the preparation of the accounts of entities in different industries such as pharmaceutical, financial services (licensed entities) and trading entities (in particular retail and grain). She also had exposure to companies involved in affiliate marketing. She also specialises in the provision of accounting advice on various technical accounting matters such as the determination of distributable profits, common control transactions, classification and measurement of assets and liabilities and also accounting implications arising from the application of tax incentives such as the formation of fiscal units and the application of notional interest deduction. She also assists companies with changing their accounting framework from IFRS to GAPSME and vice versa, highlighting any implications arising from such changes. Throughout her work, Rosalene also assists with performing accounting health checks and audit readiness engagements which help clients in having all necessary information on file for their audits.
Louise Grima is a Director at KPMG Malta. She joined KPMG in 2015 after graduating with a Master in Accountancy from the University of Malta and has since worked in direct and indirect taxation assisting clients established in a number of fields including retailing, gaming, banking, funds amongst others. Louise was awarded the 2015 MIA Best Student of the Year prize for Master in Accountancy Group 2013/2015, holds a Diploma in VAT compliance and has successfully completed the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation with an overall distinction. Louise regularly delivers seminars on both direct and indirect taxation.
Georges provides a wide range of Accounting Advisory services, including group consolidations and the preparation of consolidated financial statements under both GAPSME and IFRS, technical accounting advice on complex matters, development of Excel-based models (such as leasing, ECL impairment and consolidation tools), and outsourced corporate accounting and compliance services, such as preparation of management accounts and financial statements. His portfolio of clients is very diverse, including groups and companies operating in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, aviation, cruise line business, gaming, diversified multinationals, construction, and financial services. Georges also lectures on the Financial Reporting (FR) and Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) ACCA modules to students as part of their studies in fulfilment of the ACCA qualification.

Associate Director

Thomas is an Associate Director within the Tax function at KPMG in Malta, having joined the firm in 2016, after completing the Master in Accountancy degree at the University of Malta. He also completed the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation which is awarded by the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Thomas’s role mainly focuses on domestic corporate tax and incentive legislation, whereby he is involved in the provision of tax compliance and tax advisory services to local and international corporate clients across various industries.
Sahana is a member of the Corporate Accounting Advisory Services team at KPMG in Malta, where she specialises in finance transformations projects and non-financial reporting. She has experience in assisting clients with accounting process optimising, digital accounting manuals, and building smart dashboard. She provides advice on financial and non-financial reporting matters to clients. This includes assisting management with all their reporting objectives, including reducing time taken for preparing financial statements, reduction in manual intervention/errors in reporting, adopting best data management practices, etc. She also advises clients on technical IFRS matters and on sustainability reporting.
