Course Description:
This session seeks to provide an overview of VAT developments businesses can expect in the coming years based on current VAT discussions at EU level. The session will deal with the following topics:
- the new VAT reporting obligations for Payment Service Providers which will come into effect as from 1st January 2024,
- the Reduced Rates Directive and the changes to the Small Undertaking Scheme effective from 1st January 2025; and
- the VAT in the Digital Age proposals presented the European Commission in December 2022.
Target Audience:
Accountants, lawyers or other individuals which would like to keep abreast of VAT developments and changes. This session will be of particular interest to businesses operating with resources based both within and outside Malta; businesses engaged in the supply of services online and payment service providers.
Learning Outcomes:
After attending this session, attendees will be in a position to identify circumstances impacted by developments proposed agreed to or being discussed at EU level.

Louise Grima, Associate Director, VAT Compliance/Advisory, KPMG in Malta
Louise Grima is an Associate Director at KPMG Malta. She joined KPMG in 2015 after graduating with a Master in Accountancy from the University of Malta and has since worked in direct and indirect taxation assisting clients established in a number of fields including retailing, gaming, banking, funds amongst others. Louise was awarded the 2015 MIA Best Student of the Year prize for Master in Accountancy Group 2013/2015, holds a Diploma in VAT compliance and has successfully completed the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation with an overall distinction. Louise regularly delivers seminars on both direct and indirect taxation.
Kieran Vassallo, Manager, VAT Compliance/Advisory, KPMG in Malta
Kieran Vassallo is a Manager within the tax function at KPMG Malta. Kieran graduated at the University of Malta with distinction, completing the Master in Accountancy course in 2020. Kieran holds a Diploma in VAT Compliance and is currently reading for an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT). In December 2021 he was awarded the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers Prize for placing first worldwide in ADIT Module 3 (thematic), having sat for the EU VAT exam. On a day-to-day basis, Kieran assists clients operating in a wide-range of industries with VAT and other tax matters.
