Course Description:
This course introduces the fundamentals of Intellectual Property (IP) strategy for businesses and innovators. It focuses on how to align IP protection with business goals, manage IP portfolios, and make informed decisions about filing, licensing, and enforcement. Participants will learn how to use IP not just as a legal tool, but as a strategic asset to drive growth, competitiveness, and value creation..
Target Audience:
This course is ideal for entrepreneurs and start-up founders, product managers and innovation leads, business development and strategy professionals, or anyone involved in managing or creating valuable business assets.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to understand the strategic value of different types of IP, develop basic IP management and protection plans, and align IP decisions with business and innovation strategies.
Prerequisites:
No legal background is required. A general understanding of business operations, innovation, or product development is helpful.

Jonathan Tonna, Associate Director, IP Services, KPMG in Malta

Jonathan leads the IP Services function at KPMG in Malta and is the subject matter expert on Intellectual Property. Before joining KPMG, he spent over eight years in the IP legal services sector, working across the trademark, design, patent, and copyright fields. He also served for close to three years as a private consultant and IP lead at one of the largest operators in the gaming industry, where he was responsible for managing and enforcing the company’s IP portfolio and driving the implementation of IP strategy.
