Course Description:

This seminar will cover all the basics Financial Institutions need to know about FATCA and CRS reporting regimes. It will give an overview of the FATCA and CRS main issues faced in practice. In addition, this practical workshop will also cover the recent changes to the Maltese legislation and guidelines in relation to these tax reporting regimes.

Financial Institutions, Accountants and Corporate Service Providers.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of the session, Financial Institutions would be able to understand their FATCA and CRS obligations and the new updates to the FATCA and CRS unified guidelines. Participants will have the opportunity to put forth questions both before and during the live session.

Lisa Zarb Mizzi

Lisa is a lawyer by profession and a Partner in the tax function at KPMG in Malta, having joined in 2006 after concluding her Masters Degree in international tax at Kings College in London. Lisa’s area of specialisation is financial services. Her main focus is on international tax issues, advising banks, financial institutions, funds and insurance companies, with a presence or potential presence in Malta, on managing international corporate tax and cross-border tax planning in both direct and indirect taxation. Lisa has participated in various transaction tax projects, including tax due diligence exercises and the provision of related tax structuring advice and transaction implementation assistance, including comparative analysis of various tax jurisdictions. Since 2011, Lisa has been actively involved in developing the FATCA / CRS service offering of the firm. Her work extends to developing and reviewing FATCA / CRS policy and on-boarding documentation of financial services clients, both local and international with a presence in Malta.

Luisa Grima, Senior Manager, International Tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Luisa is a Senior Manager at KPMG. Luisa is an accountant by profession having joined KPMG in 2015 after concluding the Masters in Accountancy Degree in Malta. Luisa has also completed her studies in Domestic and International Taxation and is in possession of the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT).

Luisa is involved in the provision of domestic and international tax compliance and advisory services. Luisa has been actively involved in developing the FATCA / CRS service offering of KPMG. Her work extends to developing and reviewing FATCA / CRS policy and on-boarding documentation of financial services companies, both local and international with a presence in Malta.

Maria Dolores Vella, Assistant Manager, Corporate Tax Compliance, KPMG in Malta

Maria Dolores Vella

Maria joined KPMG on a full-time basis in July 2020, having obtained a Masters in Accountancy Degree with Distinction at the University of Malta.

Maria assists clients in complying with income tax regulations and also forms part of the international advisory services team at KPMG, specialising on FATCA / CRS service offerings. This involves advising clients on the reporting obligations and compliance matters brought by the Automatic Exchange of Information laws introduced in Malta.
