Course Description:

The calculation of the Net Asset Value (NAV) of a Fund is very important for the investment manager who will have an interest in the changing value of the portfolio in order to monitor performance and consider possible change to the composition of the portfolio. However it is also important for the investors in the fund who need to be able to monitor the rise or fall in the value of their investment.

During this short seminar, an overview of all the process leading to the final value of the fund, the reconciliation process and the challenges encountered by fund accountants to calculate the NAV, will be covered.

Target Audience:

The session is aimed for Accountants, Auditors or people wishing to work in the Funds Industry.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of proper maintenance of records of a fund;
  • Understand the different types of asset transaction and the reconciliation process;
  • Learn how to deal with corporate actions;
  • Understand the stages in the valuation life cycle of a fund; and
  • Learn to do a pricing policy.

Pre-Requisites:

This course is aimed at individuals who have an accounting background.

CPE Hours: This course qualifies for 2 hours of Structured CPE which can be classified as Core Competency. A certificate of attendance will be provided at the end of each session.

Aronne Debono

Aronne joined BOV Asset Management in 1999 and subsequently BOV Fund Services in 2006. He has experience in the valuations and financial operations of the company, was for a number of years the Compliance Officer and MLRO of the company, and is also experienced in operational risk matters. Today, Aronne is heading the Business Development & Corporate Services Division where he is responsible to generate new business for the company, managing the relationship with all stakeholders, whilst also heading the team providing Corporate Services to clients.

Aronne is a qualified accountant and holds a Masters Degree in Financial Services from the University of Malta.

He also lectures Fund Administration as part of the Banking and Finance Honours Degree offered by the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy at the University of Malta, and used to lecture Wealth Management and Fund Management and Administration at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST). Aronne is a former member of the Anti-Money Laundering Committee at the Malta Institute of Accountants, as well as a former member of the Financial Services Committee.
