Course Description:

This webinar will cover the regulatory, accounting, audit and tax challenges brought about by the adoption of IFRS 17 to the insurance sector. During the webinar, there will be time allocated to the audience to ask their questions. In addition, the participants will be given the opportunity to forward their questions beforehand in order to address the specific questions during the session.

Giselle Borg

Giselle joined KPMG as an accountant in 2003 and spent the first 13 years of her career working within KPMG Malta’s audit department where she led audit and assurance engagements for various market players, with a focus on the insurance industry. Today, Giselle advises firms on financial services regulatory, risk and actuarial matters in the areas of corporate governance, regulatory reporting, risk management, internal audit (including AML) and actuarial services (including Solvency II and IFRS 17). Giselle also assists clients with their regulatory license application for setting up a regulated company in Malta.

Thane Micallef, Director, Audit – Insurance, KPMG in Malta

Thane Micallef

Thane co-leads the insurance cluster within KPMG’s audit function. He was instrumental in the setting up of this cluster following the re-organisation of the audit department, and is heavily involved in its day-to-day management.

Luisa Gauci, Senior Manager, International tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta

Luisa Gauci

Luisa is a Manager at KPMG. Luisa is an accountant by profession having joined KPMG in 2015 after concluding the Masters in Accountancy Degree in Malta. Luisa has also completed her studies in Domestic and International Taxation and is in possession of the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT).

Luisa is involved in the provision of domestic and international tax compliance and advisory services. Luisa has been actively involved in developing the FATCA / CRS service offering of KPMG. Her work extends to developing and reviewing FATCA / CRS policy and on-boarding documentation of financial services companies, both local and international with a presence in Malta.

Renzo Bugeja, Manager, Corporate Accounting Advisory Services, KPMG in Malta

Renzo Bugeja

Renzo joined KPMG’s Corporate Accounting Advisory Services function in 2018 upon completing his master’s degree in accountancy at the University of Malta. Renzo is mainly involved in advising a varied portfolio of local and international clients with their implementation of IFRS requirements. Renzo also delivers training on specific IFRS matters and local Companies Act requirements to his clients.

Giselle Borg

Partner, Risk Consulting Advisory Services

Giselle is a Partner, Risk Consulting Advisory, KPMG in Malta. She advises firms on governance, risk and compliance matters in the areas of corporate governance, regulatory reporting, risk management, internal audit, anti-money laundering and actuarial (including Solvency II and IFRS 17). Giselle also supports firms in their interaction with Regulators and in optimising their organisational structures for current and future regulatory requirements.
