Course Description:

This course provides a practical introduction to Intellectual Property (IP) for legal as well as non-legal professionals and business owners. Training covers the major categories of IP and the criteria for protection, helping attendees understand how IP supports innovation and reduces business risk.

Target Audience:

This course is ideal for legal and non-legal staff in medium to large businesses, entrepreneurs, start-up founders and innovators, or anyone responsible for creating or managing business assets that may involve IP.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to recognise different types of IP and their business value, understand basic IP rights and protection strategies and apply best practices for managing IP in product development, branding, and partnerships.

Prerequisites:

No legal background is required. This session is suitable for anyone with a keen interest in protecting their business and its assets.

Jonathan Tonna

Jonathan leads the IP Services function at KPMG in Malta and is the subject matter expert on Intellectual Property. Before joining KPMG, he spent over eight years in the IP legal services sector, working across the trademark, design, patent, and copyright fields. He also served for close to three years as a private consultant and IP lead at one of the largest operators in the gaming industry, where he was responsible for managing and enforcing the company’s IP portfolio and driving the implementation of IP strategy.
