Course Description:
The Companies Act prescribes the procedural requirements for a members voluntarily winding up of a company. Once a company is placed into dissolution, a step plan needs to be followed until the company is eventually struck off the Register. This process shall be discussed throughout the session. This course will delve into the practical aspects from a liquidator’s perspective and also cover Income Tax, VAT and Duty considerations. The session will specifically discuss the accounting requirements during the winding up process and will provide guidance on the preparation of the winding up accounts. A walk through model for winding up accounts will be presented with a focus on real case scenarios. A red flag analysis shall be presented outlining areas where one needs to be on the lookout when preparing a set of winding up accounts.

Cherise Borg, Associate Director, Corporate Accounting Advisory Services, KPMG in Malta
Cherise has joined the Corporate Accounting Services Department in 2010 and has since then progressively advanced in her career and now plays a key role in leading a sizeable team of over 30 accountants. She graduated in B. Accty (Hons.) course from the University of Malta and has also read for a Masters in Financial Services.
Her work involves advising and assisting international and local clients in financial reporting both under the local GAPSME and IFRS framework, preparation of interim compilation reports and VAT compliance. She has experience in servicing clients operating across different markets both locally and internationally. Her industry experience ranges from pharmaceutical, gaming, government owned entities, shipping, financial services, investment property and financial holding companies.
Cherise has also been seconded to a number of local clients whereby amongst her roles she has assisted the financial controller to manage a small team as well as help to rebuild the finance team by introducing procedures, apart from assisting with reporting requirements.
Roderick Borg, Director, International Tax Advisory, KPMG in Malta
Roderick Borg is an accountant by profession. He joined the tax function of KPMG after graduating with a first class degree in both the B. Com course and the B. Accty (Hons.) course from the University of Malta. In 2010, Mr Borg was awarded the diploma in taxation with distinction from the Malta Institute of Taxation. He is currently a Director involved in the provision of direct and indirect tax compliance and advisory services to domestic and international corporate and individual clients. He also delivers lectures in various seminars and professional educational activities relating to taxation matters including taxation modules to students reading for their ACCA qualification.
