Course Description:

Discrepancy in VAT rules across Europe over the last years proved the importance of specialised guidance in this sector.

The KPMG Learning is organising a special edition of the Shipping Masterclasses focused on Yachting in Europe. The KPMG Learning Academy will bring together around a virtual table experts from different VAT Teams across the KPMG Network to provide you with VAT insights and updates about Europe’s most competitive jurisdictions such as Malta, Italy, France and UK.

The webinar will also delve on updates from the UK following the entering into full force of Brexit.

The Webinar will be moderated by Stephan Piazza, Senior Manager and Yachting Leader at KPMG Malta and will be followed by a Q&A session.

Graziella Demanuele Bianco

Associate Director

Graziella Demanuele Bianco, Associate Director at KPMG, is a Certified Public Accountant, with a first class Accountancy degree from the University of Malta. Currently she is in responsible for Knowledge Management within the Tax function. She joined KPMG in 2007 after having worked at the Dublin office, and for 10 years she was involved in the provision of direct and indirect tax advisory services. Before taking on the role of a Tax Knowledge Manager for the firm in 2017, she was the firm’s VAT specialist for five years, providing VAT advisory and with responsibility over the VAT team and the VAT compliance portfolio of the firm. During this period, she acted as the VAT Knowledge Manager for Malta within KPMG’s Global VAT Knowledge Management network. Graziella is also a member of the Indirect Tax Committee of the Malta Institute of Taxation.

Associate Director

Louise Grima is an Associate Director at KPMG Malta. She joined KPMG in 2015 after graduating with a Master in Accountancy from the University of Malta and has since worked in direct and indirect taxation assisting clients established in a number of fields including retailing, gaming, banking, funds amongst others. Louise was awarded the 2015 MIA Best Student of the Year prize for Master in Accountancy Group 2013/2015, holds a Diploma in VAT compliance and has successfully completed the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation with an overall distinction. Louise regularly delivers seminars on both direct and indirect taxation.

Senior Manager

In 2014, Angela was seconded to the Indirect Tax department of KPMG London. Angela has also attended several international VAT seminars within KPMG network and the Process & Technology Academy. During her professional time at KPMG Angela has provided consultancy services to major national and international clients in various industries, including companies in the automotive industry, pharmaceutical, telecommunication sectors, with special reference to indirect taxation. Angela has delivered Italian VAT training sessions and seminars on e-invoicing to personnel of multinational companies. Angela is currently involved in Global Tax Outsourcing projects for multinational groups and is assisting many clients with the e-invoicing implementation.
Laurent is International Indirect Tax Partner in KPMG Avocats. Laurent is regularly involved in the management of indirect tax issues encountered by operators in the retail sector (i.e., VAT territoriality issues, mitigating the VAT impact, determining cash optimization solutions, identification of solutions in order to maximize cash flow such as reverse charge authorization on import …) and assists clients in their contacts with French Tax Authorities (tax audit, refund claims and litigation, individual ruling request) and before the authorities of the European Union. Laurent is member of the OECD TAG group WP9 dedicated to VAT issues. He is lecturer to Paris I and one of the author of the VAT navigator.
Katie Aghabala joined KPMG in 2018 and is a director in our VAT team. She is based in our Edinburgh office and leads our Scottish Indirect Tax practice. She has 15 years’ experience advising clients on a broad range of UK and international VAT matters. This includes two years in the United States where she advised large multinational businesses on their global VAT footprint. Katie also leads KPMG UK’s indirect tax Transport and Luxury Asset teams. Sector-specific experience: Katie is an international VAT specialist and advises clients across all sectors and business types. She has a specialist understanding of cross-border VAT including both supplies of goods and services. Specific luxury asset project work includes advising on asset ownership, movement and use (including chartering). She also has experience advising on the impact of Brexit on arrangements.

Assistant Manager

Annalise Schembri Cefai is an Assistant Manager at KPMG Malta. She joined KPMG in 2017 after graduating with a Master in Accountancy from the University of Malta. Since then, she has been working in direct and indirect taxation, assisting a vast array of clients from different industries, including financial services, insurance, yachting and aviation amongst others. Annalise holds a Diploma in VAT compliance and a Professional Award in Taxation, the latter issued by the Malta Institute of Taxation with an overall Distinction.

Senior Manager

Romain joined KPMG Avocats in 2019 after 12 year experience within another International Law Firms in Paris, as a VAT/Indirect taxes specialist. He currently serves as an indirect tax senior manager. He has been involved in all aspects of French indirect tax in all sectors of activities and has an extensive experience is the banking sector.
