Course Description:

Maltese tax law is constantly changing, and this requires people working in the industry and service providers to keep up to date with such changes.

This session will provide an overview of the main changes to Maltese tax law which took place during 2022. The topics to be covered include:

  • Updates made to the Income Tax Acts impacting companies and individuals
  • Updates in relation to Duty on Documents and Transfers
  • An overview of the main new TRAs introduced in the income tax returns for companies with effect from year of assessment 2022, namely those in relation investment aid, income or capital arising outside Malta, and surrendering allowable deductions
  • Updates in relation to the Mandatory Automatic Exchange of Information in relation to Cross-Border Arrangements by virtue of the related FAQs
  • Brief overview of the Budget Bill for 2023

Target Audience:

The session is aimed at corporate service providers, law firms, tax practitioners, accountants and other professionals that are interested in Maltese tax law and are involved in structures that may be affected by updates in Maltese tax.

Learning Outcomes:

This session is aimed at equipping the attendees with an overview of the updates which took place within the domestic tax arena during 2022 in order to remain up to date with recent changes and enable them to identify issues that may require further detailed analysis.

Roderick Borg

Roderick is an accountant by profession, joined the tax function of KPMG after graduating with a first-class degree in both the B. Com course and the B. first-class (Hons.) course from the University of Malta. In 2010, Roderick was awarded the diploma in taxation with distinction from the Malta Institute of Taxation. Roderick is currently a Director involved in the provision of direct and indirect tax compliance and advisory services to domestic and international corporate and individual clients. He also delivers lectures in various seminars and professional educational activities relating to taxation matters including taxation modules to students reading for their ACCA qualification.

Faye Gauci Grech, Senior Manager, Tax – Incentive Legislation Team, KPMG in Malta

Faye Gauci Grech

Faye is a Senior Manager in the tax function at KPMG in Malta. She joined KPMG in 2015 after graduating with a Masters in Accountancy from the University of Malta, with an overall distinction. Faye is part of the Income Tax Compliance, Domestic Tax Advisory and Incentive Legislation teams of KPMG. She has advised a number of large domestic companies and also international organisations in various industries. Faye has accumulated extensive knowledge and experience in relation to the compliance matters of local companies which benefit from incentives offered by the Maltese Government and the EU. She also assists in advising and assisting national and multinational clients with their tax compliance matters and their eligibility to benefit from incentives.  Moreover, she has been involved in advising and providing assistance on financing structures and group restructuring, in particular in relation to the setting up of corporate structures in Malta. Faye is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
